OUROBOROS
The insurance agent’s face
was twelve feet tall
on the billboard.
The words beside him
proclaimed “Being there
is why I’m here.”
As circular logic,
this seemed to abuse
both geometry and rhetoric.
I tried this on my wife.
“Babe, I’m here for you
because I’m there.”
She said, “You’re as full of it
as the solid waste treatment plant.”
Still I can’t help but wonder
as I sit down, pen in hand,
whether the poem brought me
here to be written
or if I’m writing because
the poem came to me.
