Village Idiot
Tell me that joke where you said you wanted
to be something
but became nothing
everybody got a good old laugh.
Get to the part where your best pals Jack and Jim
came into the picture. Remember how much
fun you three had recalling forgotten times
Boy, you really had us fooled.
Get some Aspirin down that gullet
to shake off that nasty hangover.
Tell momma of the time I found
you on the street. You said you were
going into town in pursuit of something,
though, you came home with nothing.
This would really crack her up.
Get Jack and Jim to help you to
explain yourself. Your
slurs interpret something
which came out as nothing.
Sing the merry tune that was supposed
to soothe your troubles, the one I
heard at the intersection of Main Street,
the one nobody took seriously. The lyrics meant
nothing even though your heart mourned something.
Everybody got a good old laugh.
