I've Been Told...
It takes 1000 paper cranes to grant one wish
and I was fine until somewhere around 247
when the paper cuts started to cause numbing in the digits.
248-52, the wings were askew and worsening progressively
and 305, goodness 305, had lost all resemblance to a bird
and formed into some kind of duck-beaver
(platypus, you later corrected).
So here I sit, trash bin brimming with colorful crumplings
while scores of origami fowl adorn the surfaces of your apartment,
awaiting your return.
Just remember “It's the thought that counts”
(also, purchase more adhesive bandages from market)
and that I love you, happy Valentine's Day.
